Very excited about our trip to San Diego.

Monday we will meet in two offices, with an afternoon trip to La Jolla (Neurosciences Institute, Salk is closed on Monday) and UCSD (time permitting).  Tuesday we have two very exciting school tours, plus a walk through of a new SD city college bldg. PLEASE CARPOOL to San Diego!

On both days, there are two options for parking / getting around.  I suggest to park at the Old Town Transit Center (4009 Taylor Street + free parking) and use the trolley / busses to get around.  You will need a day pass which is $5, plus will have to purchase a $2 card (to get the day pass).  There are options for parking downtown, and if you are carpooling that may work out dollar wise, but no guarantees – you can find parking info here.  It also adds confusion to getting around + traffic , so itinerary below assumes taking public transportation.

Monday, February 16

9:00am: Old Town Transit Center, meet and take trolley in together.

10am: LPA, Inc (131 14th Street); Trolley Stop 12th and Imperial Transit Center

We will be at LPA until about 1:00pm.  Keep in mind: you will need a box or logical way to transport models drawings on public transportation, and to our visit after LPA.

1:30 PM: RNT Architects (363 Fifth Avenue, Suite 202); 15 minute walk from LPA.

Return to Old Town Transit Center, take cars to La Jolla.

4:00pm: The Neurosciences Institute, Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects

10640 John Jay Hopkins Drive (Street Parking at John Jay Hopkins Drive and General Atomics Ct, park on General Atomics Ct)

This project  is all about the spaces between so as long as we can get into the courtyard, that is really what matters most.  This is a magical place to visit that you may not find on your own….

NOTE: Unfortunately, Salk is closed on Feb. 16.
